The Rules of Craps: An Introduction to How It Works
Craps is such a fun and simple game. If you go to a land-based casino, you will find that craps is the table where the action is, with so many people shouting and moving about around the craps table. For some people, it is the most exciting game out there.
It is said that craps has better odds than most of the games in the casino. This is true if you know how to avoid the bets that need to be, well, avoided. This simple hands-on game makes craps fun to play.
Let us give you a basic introduction on how craps works which you have to understand so you can enjoy the game to the fullest.
The Rules of Craps and How It Works # 1: The Table
When you walk in a crowded casino floor, the most rowdy of people could be found around the craps table. It’s where the crowd gathers around.
The craps table is covered in felt and features a diagram which has spaces for the types of bets.
The center section of a craps table is where you put bets that are called “Hardways“ and “One Roll.“ At the end of the table, you will find certain areas called the Come, Pass Line, Place, Field and other bets.
The ends of the table in craps are mirror images of each other.
The Rules of Craps and How It Works # 2: The people manning the table
At any given time, you will find at least 4 casino workers manning the craps table. Usually, there will be 2 dealers, a stick person and a box person.
What are their roles?
The box person is responsible for observing everything that’s going on at the craps table, which is why he is seated at the center of the table logging in all the action. The table will be stacked with a lot of chips and he has to be aware where those chips come from so if there is a dispute, he is the one that settles it. He also counts the money. The box person is the one that oversees everything.
Now there are 3 dealers on the table, one being called the stick person. The job of the 2 dealers is to stand on the back side facing the gamblers. This is their on-base position. These two hand out your money and keep it if you lose.
The stick person is the one that handles the dice. The stick person is the sales person and encourages people to bet. A great stick person can influence the craps game and can make money for the casino.
